The only difference between steel string guitar and the acoustic bass guitar is there will be a big hollow inside the wooden body of the normal guitar. As the sound produced by this is very low, there is a built in sound amplification mechanism along with each acoustic bass instrument. Acoustic bass came into existence from the mid 20th century and came as a successor to electric bass instrument. The acoustic bass are fretted and consists of a small metal bar which produces the desired pitch when the string is stopped by the finger at the metal bar. Like electric bass guitar, the acoustic bass guitar also has 4 strings tuned to E-A-D-G. It is not possible to produce the resonance at lower B because of the size of the instrument. In that case an extra high string is added.
